What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community, Academy, and Events Intern position at New England Free Jacks?
The New England Free Jacks are greater Boston’s explosive and excitable professional rugby team competing in Major League Rugby (MLR), the premier North American professional competition, representing all the greatness of the six New England states on and off the field.
As we gear up for the start of our 2024 season, we're looking to bring on motivated and energetic individuals who are looking to develop their skills and experience in the sports entertainment field. In your role as a Community/Events Intern, you will be responsible for supporting the Community and Academy Lead & Events Manager to help organize and deliver the Free Jacks yearly community outreach events and other tasks as required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will be important as you will be interacting with individuals in your community of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences.
Interns are encouraged to pursue areas of interest and have the opportunity for in-office experience. Match Day internships are unpaid positions, but college credit can be earned upon request. Match Day areas you may gain experience in are:
- Stadium Operations
- Gameday Setup & Breakdown
- Box Office Ticket Sales & Operations
- Hospitality Management
- Group Experience Management
- In-Game Promotions
- Concessions Operations
- Sponsorship Activation
- Merchandise
- Season Ticket Membership Management
You will report directly to the Community and Academy Lead and be heavily involved in all aspects of a match day. We want someone who loves sports, has a can-do attitude, and, above all, a relentless work ethic.

- Match Day interns will work with different departments as assigned to ensure that all aspects of a Free Jacks match day run smoothly
- These interns are expected to be available for all eight home games, with the opportunity to attend other Free Jacks events
Requirements:
- Pursuing a degree in Sport Management/Administration or a similar field
- Ability to work most, if not all, Free Jacks home matches on weekends
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
- Strong initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to collaborate with fellow team members
- Ability to lift ~35 lbs. on occasion and be on your feet for extended periods
- Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment Match Dates will be released in December.
