Description
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest in the field of infertility and assisted reproductive technology looking to expand upon their lab experience and make meaningful contributions to patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts full range of andrology procedures including, but not limited to; semen analysis, strict morphology, semen cryopreservation, epididymal and testicular tissue processing and cryopreservation, and clinical sperm preparation for intra uterine insemination (IUI).
- Conducts full range of hormone and infectious disease assays performed in the Immulite analyzer in the reproductive endocrine laboratory.
- Interprets quality control results and accepts or rejects for patient testing.
- Performs comprehensive cross referencing of patient identification labels, requisitions and specimen containers.
- Navigates the laboratory information system that communicates between the Immulite and the medical record system.
- Identifies errors in patient results, Immulite assays, and documentation and troubleshoots and/or notifies the laboratory supervisor as needed.
- Performs and documents daily Q.C. of all andrology and reproductive endocrine lab equipment.
- Aids in the general up-keep of the laboratories (check for inventory, stocking shelves, end of day organization).
- Makes semen smears, fixes and stains slides for microscopic examination.
- Performs quality audits and daily cross checks of specimen labels for accuracy.
- Conducts human sperm survival testing on specific contact materials for the andrology and IVF labs.
- Participates actively in all certification and proficiency testing processes as required by the State of Louisiana, CLIA and C.A.P.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPPA guidelines at all times.
Schedule:
- Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 4:00pm & Fridays 7:00am - 1:00pm
- Scheduling flexibility, including weekend and holiday rotation commitment is essential.
- Must be willing and able to travel to satellite andrology laboratories as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- A BS degree in biological sciences is required (Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Cytogenetic Technology, or a related field)
- Louisiana state Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) license
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist
- Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP’s Certification Maintenance Program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Andrology lab experience desired, preferably human, but other lab species will be considered. Other Clinical Laboratory experience a plus.
