TITLE: School Psychologist
QUALIFICATIONS:Connecticut certification as a School Psychologist (070) Such additional qualifications as the Board deems advisable. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual, English and Spanish
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services, Principal/Director/Pathway Leader or designee
JOB GOAL: To provide effective services within the domains of assessment, consultation, and intervention; to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Conducts psychoeducational and behavioral evaluations. Uses a problem-solving framework, based on data from multiple sources, and including valid and reliable assessment techniques, as a foundation for decision making. Makes recommendations for evidence-based interventions and instructional support strategies to develop academic, social and life skills. Integrates behavioral supports and mental health services with academic and learning goals for children. Works collaboratively with other school personnel to create and maintain a multi-tiered continuum of services. Engages in effective communication in order to plan, implement, and evaluate academic and mental health services. Considers antecedents, consequences, functions, and potential causes of behavioral difficulties that may impede learning or socialization. Collaborates to develop and implement behavior change programs at the individual, group, classroom, or school-wide level. Provides direct counseling, behavioral supports, and indirect interventions through consultation for students who experience mental health problems that impair learning and/or socialization. Participates as part of special education, 504, and problem-solving teams, providing consultation and support to both school staff and parents, to improve academic and social-emotional-behavioral functioning. Applies understanding of the influence of culture, background, and individual characteristics when collaborating with others, and when designing and implementing interventions, to achieve learning and behavioral outcomes. Applies knowledge and skills to create and maintain safe, supportive, fair, and effective learning environments and enhance family-school collaboration for all students. Creates linkages between schools, families, and community providers, and helps to coordinate services when programming for children involves multiple agencies. Participates in school crisis teams and uses data-based decision making methods, problem-solving strategies, consultation, collaboration, and direct services in the context of crisis prevention, preparation, response, and recovery. Maintains records and documentation of services. Performs other related tasks assigned by administration. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary as determined by the Board of Education through negotiations.
SALARY RANGE: $44,102 - $92,960 as determined by professional experience and NLEA contract.
EVALUATION: Annually by the building administrator or designee.
