This team member will be responsible for the administration of the benefit programs for the company’s locations and will be instrumental in the development of short-and long-term benefits strategies and competitive, cost-effective health, welfare and retirement plans. In addition, this role will provide compliance expertise, partnering with the HR team to ensure that we are current with new and changing HR policies and practices on a local state and federal level. Familiarity with employment laws in New York and California specifically are required.

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the company’s group health programs
- Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Help define processes to coordinate the transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration. Investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.
- Maintain employee health and welfare benefit information in the Company s HR system(s).
- Accumulate, track and analyze workforce data to ensure compliance with the Affordable Care Act and report findings
- Handles benefit inquiries and issues to ensure quick and thorough resolution.
- Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave;
- Administer the day-to-day aspects of the retirement plan, with primary responsibility for the 401(k) plan to ensure third-party administrators are in compliance with ERISA and IRS guidance
- Develop and deliver short- and long-term recommendations to ensure benefit programs meet the needs of a diverse workforce, while maintaining compliance with all legal requirements.
- Manage the open enrollment process including RFPs, vendor coordination and preparation and availability of announcement materials, booklets and other materials.
- Assist in the design, implementation, communication and administration of affordable and competitive benefit programs to attract and retain employees.
- Develop processes and procedures for leave administration and educating restaurant leadership on best practices to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state leave regulations.
- Primary company contact with vendor benefit providers on day-to-day issues and troubleshooting and acts as liaison between the company, company employees and third-party vendors to resolve escalated issues.
- Partner with external vendors to conduct annual discrimination testing, plan audits and ensure government filings are prepared timely
- Stay current on changing state and federal compliance and HR policy changes and provide necessary updates, education and process changes
- Create systems and processes for tracking and filing of required HR documents.
- Conduct regular HR Compliance audits
- Stay abreast of all employment, labor and regulatory changes and ensure applicable HR systems, policies, handbooks, documents, and trainings are updated.
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 year’s experience in benefit programs and/or employee benefit administration
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, ACA, Workers’ Compensation, Medicare, HIPAA, and social security and DOL requirements
- Experience with multi-state HR compliance, particularly New York and California
- Advanced knowledge of MSOffice, including Excel skills
- Ability to focus on and manage competing priorities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- PHR/PHRca/CEBS preferred
