The Business Development team at NYPA drives innovation through origination and facilitation of asset growth opportunities for the New York Power Authority. The Business Development Manager will have the opportunity to adapt and grow, while helping to create an innovative and cutting edge asset base of renewable energy supporting investments supporting New York Power Authority’s ambition to become the first Digital Utility, demonstration of Agility in navigating New York State’s climate change laws, flexibility in achieving ISO-55001 certification, and desire to expand the existing asset base through supplemental Generation and Transmission investments.
This Business Development Manager primarily supports Transmission development within New York State tied to grid modernization, NYISO Public Policy Transmission Needs (PPTN), Offshore Wind development, and renewable generation deliverability.
The successful Business Development Manager will be curious, solutions oriented, driven to continuous learning and growth, and have strong analytical skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate new opportunity development of transmission planning studies, transmission siting, and project financials/estimates, including economic, quantitative, and statistical analysis to support the assessment of new opportunities.
- Assemble and lead project teams to perform due diligence and/or develop new business opportunities.
- Assist in the development of the business case for new opportunities including the commercial model, alignment with policy, and identifying key risks.
- Act as a liaison between NYPA management team and project stakeholders for implementation of new projects.
- Liaise with the management of external parties including developers, transmission owners, NYISO, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences, as needed, including NYISO and FERC meetings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of New York's energy vision via the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and the Accelerated Renewable Energy Growth and Community Benefit Act.
- Ability to converse and support Transmission Planning through development of scoping documents, review of feasibility studies, and ability to learn the NYISO process(es) and FERC transmission proceedings.
- Ability to lead projects from origination to siting (physical and regulatory), preparation of financial estimates, and assisting in appropriate regulatory filings.
- Good leadership skills with ability to communicate clear objectives and motivate a team.
- Advanced communication, writing, and presentation skills, with effective interactions with stakeholders across internal and external organizations from various cultural backgrounds.
- Understanding or ability to develop a good understanding of financial and business concepts.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy industry.
- Minimum of 3 years of transmission, renewables, or other relevant experience required (physical design, transmission planning, or project management).
- Experience with the ISO/RTO electric marketplace is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Position requires up to 10-15% travel, primarily within NY State.

Salary : $115,460 - $173,180
