Job Posting for Surgery Coordinator at Newport Orthopedic Institute
The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of surgery process including, but not limited to: insurance verification, pre-operative certifications/authorizations, scheduling patients for any pre-operative labs, testing and coordination of post-surgery care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate surgical schedules for orthopedic procedures, ensuring optimal use of operating room time and resources.
Communicate with patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers to schedule surgeries, pre-operative appointments, and necessary tests.
Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain pre-authorization for surgical procedures and ensure proper billing processes.
Provide patients with clear instructions regarding pre-operative preparation, including dietary restrictions, medication guidelines, and transportation arrangements.
Collaborate with surgical team members, including surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers, to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.
Serve as a Medical Assistant, assisting with patient intake, vitals, and medical history documentation as needed.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of surgical schedules, patient information, and communication logs.
Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including answering phones, filing paperwork, and managing electronic medical records.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Prior experience in healthcare scheduling and medical assisting, preferably in an orthopedic or surgical setting.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic medical records systems and Microsoft Office suite.
Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
