SUMMARY:

The Director of Operations and Supply Chain creates functional strategies and specific objectives for demand planning, purchasing, transportation and inventory management, and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Responsible for procurement of finished products and components, management of incoming and outgoing transportation, and oversight of all supply chain and operations activities necessary for the management of raw materials, finished good inventory, and order fulfillment. Manage a complex supply chain for both domestic and global operations while ensuring all finished goods orders are fulfilled on time and complete.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set the vision and strategy for forecasting, purchasing and inventory management to ensure a “best-in-class” supply chain management program is executed to support company growth strategies and is adaptable to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies.
  • Define and ensure delivery against key performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain and operations factors, such as product cost, on-time delivery, vendor quality, outbound shipping metrics, inbound shipping matrix, inventory turnover, fill rates, ROA (Return on Assets), line-item fill rates, customer specific requirements especially as it relates to ecommerce shipments.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, developing. and leading teams who manage the purchasing, supply chain management, and delivery of products to support the business needs of NICOR, Inc. Ensures all employees have a clear and thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities and how they relate to the overall goals of the company.
  • Leads collaboration with cross-functional departments to identify resources needed to establish and maintain an effective supply chain.
  • Requires subject matter expertise in purchasing, supply chain processes, international business, and logistics.
  • Interact with domestic and international contract manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors on all matters pertaining to NICOR’s supply chain.
  • Requires management of a product order from the moment a production order is issued all the way through invoicing and collection.
  • Lead the development of companywide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), management, training, and process improvement as it relates to SOPs.
  • Analyze shipping documents for logistics, billing accuracy and terms, re-negotiates terms as needed. review purchase orders, packing list, invoices, and logistics from domestic and international vendors for billing accuracy.
  • Analyze and evaluate supplier quotations and services to determine the most competitive solutions and participate in the selection and development of new suppliers. Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Oversee the process of maintaining current product information in the ERP system as needed, including adding new products, updating inventory levels, dimensions, barcodes, costs, sell price and other data necessary for maintaining accurate ordering and inventory control information.
  • Reviews and analyzes reports to determine potential inventory/product overages and shortages and adjusts forecast/order quantities accordingly to maximize return on investment. Analyzes current inventories and procedures and suggests improvements to increase efficiency and profitability.
  • Identifies optimal shipment and transportation routes with attention to consolidation of warehousing and distribution.
  • Acts as part of the team coordinating engineering changes, product line extension, or new product launches to ensure timely and orderly material and production flow transitions.
  • Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identifies and qualifies new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
  • Ensure data integrity within the SHIMS Inventory System.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to identify and maintain resources needed to establish and provide an effective supply chain and operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred): Accounting, Business Management, Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related field of study.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities assigned and comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
  • Experience with ISO 9000 and operational process mapping.
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification (preferred, but not required).
  • Supply Chain Certifications (preferred, but not required – CPIM, CSCP, CLTD).
  • Experience in the Lighting Industry (preferred, but not required).
  • Warehouse experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Proven work experience in operations, purchasing, distribution and manufacturing.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory or management experience.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to develop and supervise a motivated and positive work force.
  • Knowledge of distribution processes, operational management, and safety regulations.
  • Import customs experience and understanding of processes, international trade, and experience collaborating with international teams.
  • Strong Negotiation skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage, supervise and train staff with emphasis on prioritizing and scheduling of work assignments.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Experience working with international cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize business needs.
  • Team player, strong collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail. An ability to prioritize, work within deadlines, handle multiple projects, and maintain objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • In a typical interior/warehouse/office environment: work performed in an Office setting is largely a sedentary role, must be able to sit for long durations of time.
  • Warehouse environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and fumes.
  • Moderate physical effort required (in warehouse environment) requiring handling of average weight objects up to 40 pounds.
  • May require standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Requires ability to drive a company or personal vehicle.
