*We are looking to hire someone to work in either our Columbus, Ohio or Merrillville Indiana office with a hybrid schedule (2 days/week in office)**

Job Summary
The Sustainability Principal reports to the Manager of Sustainability and serves as a technical expert that develops, integrates, and reports sustainability initiatives across the company. This position requires cross-functional collaboration with several internal departments and the NiSource Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Team to achieve objectives and key results for sustainability. NiSource has received several accolades for its ESG performance and is working to achieve ESG goals that provide value to our customers, employees, and shareholders.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads data collection, controls and reporting to internal and external stakeholders for sustainability.
• Actively leads continuous improvement efforts around sustainability within the organization through data analysis, strategic thinking, planning and collaboration.
• Obtains third-party assurance for key ESG metrics.
• Monitors, researches and benchmarks best practices and anticipated market trends with a focus on the utility and energy industries.
• Utilizes expert industry knowledge to identify, track and communicate risks, opportunities and strategies associated with emerging issues.
• Actively participates in NiSource’s cross functional ESG Team and helps achieve the goals of the ESG Team.
• Advocates for and assists in the development of sustainability initiatives.
• Makes short, medium and long-term improvement recommendations around sustainability efforts for the organization for consideration by leadership and executive management.
• Reviews, revises and assists in implementation of NiSource’s ESG-related policies.

Required Qualifications For Position

• Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Data Management, Economics, Accounting, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent.
• At least five (5) years of applicable business experience.
• Exhibits effective competencies, such as managing work, work standards, leveraging feedback, technical/professional knowledge, and customer orientation.
• Strong desire to advance sustainability in the energy industry.
• Analytical skills with strong ability to manipulate and organize data.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively on teams within cross-functional team environments.
• Project management skills and experience is preferred.
• Must be able to integrate complex operational strategies for successful outcomes.

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

• Master's Degree in Sustainability, Data Management, Economics, Accounting, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent.
• Previous experience at a regulated utility.
