Primary Responsibility:
- Works with the Assistant Superintendent Consist Management - Planning to coordinate system fleet distribution between divisions to meet daily passenger service needs. Responsible for a current fleet of 278 locomotives, 1047 passenger cars and in excess of 900 Rail passenger trains. Assures adherence to established consist counts and equipment types to provide safe, on-time, efficient passenger service.
- Works with the Yardmasters, Mechanical Department and Transportation supervision to expedite movement of revenue and non-revenue equipment system-wide reducing downtime and maximizing availability of rolling stock. Assures train cars arrive at maintenance facility for inspection, repair, and maintenance as scheduled. Ensures the maintenance facility has a full complement of cars to service each day to meet the daily routine maintenance cycles.
- Supervises and coordinates interactions of Yardmasters and Chief Dispatchers relative to crew movements, coach and locomotive movements between outlying points and predetermined Rail repair facilities.
- Monitors non-revenue crews work performance and budget to ensure NJ TRANSIT performance and budget standards are met. Maintains or reduces operating costs by coordinating efforts of the Mechanical and Transportation departments.
- Responds to service disruptions, derailments, equipment failure, power outages, weather emergencies, and special train movements, as required.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in Railroad operations, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge and Skills required:
Essential:
- Knowledge of NORAC operating rules and procedures, FRA regulations, and applicable labor contracts required.
- Must have knowledge of all facets of the transportation industry, including background in crew and equipment management, personnel management skills, and a familiarity with budget and financial processes.
