As the Director of Home Energy Operations, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating all operational activities related to home energy audits, insulation, plumbing, HVAC (air-source and gas/propane), and lighting services. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth execution of projects, maintain high-quality standards, and drive operational efficiency to meet customer needs effectively. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to deliver exceptional service and promote energy efficiency in residential settings.
What You Will Do
  • Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize the delivery of home energy audits, insulation, and plumbing services.
  • Coordinate scheduling, resource allocation, and logistics to ensure timely completion of projects while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential bottlenecks or challenges, and implement proactive solutions to maintain project timelines and quality standards.
  • Establish quality control measures and standards to ensure that all home energy audits, insulation installations, and plumbing services meet or exceed industry regulations, safety protocols, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate with the Residential HVAC and lighting teams to ensure projects are completed within the timeline and exceed customer expectations.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with quality standards, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and emerging technologies related to energy efficiency and plumbing to maintain operational compliance and enhance service offerings.
  • Addressing inquiries, concerns, and service requests from customers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by understanding their needs, providing expert advice and solutions, and ensuring high levels of satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely submission of all necessary paperwork, including audit reports, insulation installation certificates, plumbing permits, and other documentation, to clients and regulatory authorities, such as the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
  • Maintain meticulous records of project documentation, client communications, and regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee administrative staff to streamline documentation processes, minimize errors, and expedite approvals, enhancing overall efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to identify opportunities for business growth, upselling, and expansion of service offerings to existing and prospective clients.
  • Evaluate and select vendors, contractors, and suppliers for home energy audit equipment, insulation materials, plumbing fixtures, and other resources, negotiating contracts and agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers, monitoring performance, resolving issues, and optimizing partnerships to support operational objectives and service delivery.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track operational performance, project outcomes, and client satisfaction levels.
  • Generate regular reports and dashboards summarizing operational performance, identifying trends, and providing insights to support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management and stakeholders, presenting findings, recommendations, and action plans to drive operational excellence and achieve strategic goals.
Supervision
  • Responsible for general supervision of staff and development; this includes but is not limited to establishing staffing levels, scheduling, training, written evaluations, spot checks on quality, payroll and additional pay incentives.
  • Work with corporate Human Resources to build and develop talent on the team, understand employees' career goals and provide coaching to get employees ready for advancement.
  • Supervise and manage performance; ensure tasks are appropriately delegated and completed by monitoring performance and holding employees accountable for meeting expectations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members. Hold the team accountable with feedback to team members, deliver corrective action and discipline when necessary, and document all performance issues.
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations and engage HR when appropriate. Actively support all corporate policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage conflict and crisis; proactively anticipate, manage, and constructively resolve disputes and disagreements.
  • Coordinate with human resources on any employee issues or concerns.
Safety
  • Perform periodic safety audits of employees.
  • Understand, provide leadership, and communicate safety goals and objectives.
  • Orient, train, and coach all team members on safety requirements, ensure safety compliance and take appropriate action to address safety violations.
  • Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment complying with company and OSHA standards and perform monthly safety inspections, as assigned.
  • Follow company policies to report and investigate all accidents and near-miss incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and address performance and related discipline issues, as appropriate.

What You Will Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in operations management, preferably in the home energy services or construction industry, with expertise in project management, team leadership, and client relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of home energy audit processes, insulation techniques, and plumbing systems, including relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, build relationships with clients and stakeholders, and drive cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other operational software solutions.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and implement strategies to optimize operational performance and achieve business objectives.
  • Certification in project management, operations management, or related fields is a plus.
