Technical Specialist

As a Senior Technical Specialist, you will lead or manage the development and evaluation of potential wind energy business opportunities, including technical due diligence, environmental studies, permits, and proposals, and create wind energy project plans including project scope, goals, technical specifications, tasks, resources, schedules, costs, and contingencies and work with your manager to provide engineering technical support to develop new wind turbines and evaluate existing ones while managing energy assessments, engineering or construction activities to ensure that wind project needs and objectives are met. Ensure project quality, conformance to specifications, and compliance with regulations. Carry out Wind resource studies and guide juniors in forecasting and scheduling.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and deploys troubleshooting and data collection plans to support site personnel in needs related to offline turbines and/or performance trends.
- Manages the creation/execution of Maximo queries including inserts, ensure data accuracy and integrity, facilitate updates and implement pre-project inputs and training.
- Summarizes and reports performance and product-based events for warranty or internal review board evaluation and support resulting investigation plans.
- Conducts preliminary assessments of turbine faults and failures utilizing various reliability/quality techniques and data sources.
- Reviews and supports coordination of technical aspects of fleet retrofits and upgrades to achieve high levels of safety and reliability.
- Develops methods for periodic data analysis and monitoring of critical subsystem performance data, such as alarm trends, temperature data, and energy production to support the minimization of corrective maintenance scopes and turbine downtime.
- Monitors fleet performance to identify achievement of contractual guarantees and/or risks of potential losses.
- Analyzes turbine control data to confirm designed performance levels are achieved and advises recommendations to correct/improve.
- Performs central role in Post Sales processes for retrofit release/implementation and improvement action creation/evaluation.
- Serves as technical liaison for Engineering redesigns and field test plans in the AWNA fleet of AW1500 and AW3000.
- Generates and present periodic reports on the wind farm and turbine performance to the customer(s) and internal management team.
- Creates content and performs like a technical trainer in training sessions for the customer, contractor, and internal personnel.
- Supports and coordinates field corrective actions, inspection and test plans, and performance assessment activities to ensure proper equipment installation, operation, and maintenance delivery.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
- Associate/Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline or equivalent work experience.
- 3-7 years of experience in power generation equipment support with 3 years concentration in wind turbine technologies preferred.
- Experience using CMMS or EAM systems.
- Ability to train personnel on various facets of Acciona turbine technology.
- Demonstrated ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, PI, or other statistical and data analysis programs.
- Ability to manage several activities simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, prepare proposals, and successfully interact with all organizational levels and customers.
- Strong technical understanding of engineered components including process requirements of any of the following: bearings, steel fabrications, gearboxes, fiberglass moldings, hydraulic systems, and control systems.
- Data-driven decision maker with excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
- Technical knowledge of generators, gearboxes, motors, power converters, switchgear, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and control systems is preferred.
- Experience solving technical problems on generating equipment preferred.
- Wind turbine commissioning experience preferred.
- Must meet the weight requirement of safety gear, 260 lbs. or less.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
