What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crane Operator position at Norfolk Iron & Metal Co.?
JOB SPECIFICATION: According to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, 1991 and the company’s assessment of the position, the physical demand level is classified as sedentary.
JOB DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
- observe hookup and determines safety of a load.
- responsible for the safe operation of the crane and safe handling of the loads
- Manipulates or depress crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons to regulate speed, and direction of crane and hoist movement according to verbal or signal instructions from the personnel on the floor
- must learn and respond to hand signals
- use the horn to warn personnel that the crane is coming overhead
- able to climb up a ladder or walk up stairs to 30 feet to the entrance of the crane
- if crane needs maintenance, the crane operator notifies the maintenance department
- clean the work site area by using a broom, rags or cleaning compounds and will assist in other housekeeping practices
- perform other duties specified by supervisor
- follow the ISO Quality System.
