TUTOR & ACADEMIC COACH (CASUAL)

ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTRE

 

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our Learning Support team as a Tutor & Academic Coach (casual). The successful candidate will passionately advance student learning and success; compassionately meet each student where they are at; work collaboratively with Learning Support colleagues, Faculty, and staff in other departments to find ways forward; and enthusiastically lead from where they are with innovative ideas, approaches, and processes.

 

Tutors & Academic Coaches provides tutoring and academic coaching to students taking foundational and post-secondary courses in English, humanities, math, science, business and more, both in-person and online. Tutors & Academic Coaches work with students via multiple delivery channels, including drop-in tutoring and academic coaching; coaching appointments through a Habits for Success program, and coaching appointments for students referred by Accessibility Services. You will have the opportunity to experiment with varied approaches to supporting learners and the opportunity to innovate, as we transform our services to meet the college’s strategic goals and work towards our commitment to Indigenization, decolonization and becoming an anti-racist organization.

 

*This is a casual position to June, 2024 with opportunities for Saturday and weekday shifts.

 

 

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

 

  • Provide tutoring and academic coaching support to students.
  • Assess learning needs, collaborate with students to facilitate content mastery and build individualized learning strategy toolkits that support independence and self-regulation both in-person and online.
  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and holistic learning experience for all students.
  • Liaise with teaching faculty, Learner Centre staff, Accessibility Services, Indigenous Student Services, and other college areas to provide wrap-around academic support.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with program areas within an assigned liaison portfolio.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Library staff and Accessibility Services in the integrated Learner Centre service environment.
  • Implement projects and initiatives that support students’ academic success.
  • Contribute to, or lead, the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects and initiatives, such as remedial support initiatives with program areas, and collaborative initiatives with Accessibility Services.
  • Contribute to on-going quality improvement in educational practice and service excellence.
  • Contribute to the evolution and innovation of best practices, tools, and resources that support educational practice and excellence in service provision.
  • Engage in development opportunities, both internally and externally, as part of performance development planning, including peer learning and case conferencing.
  • Lead, or participate in, various operational functions, such as promotions and scheduling.
  • Capture accurate usage metrics for the purposes of decision-making and reporting.

 

 

WHAT YOU BRING

 

  • A Graduate degree (MEd, MA, MSc or related) and a degree in Education (at the undergraduate or graduate level) are required. Equivalent education and related experience may also be considered.
  • Specialization is required in English, writing, math, science and/or business math (inclusive of foundational language learning and academic writing), with applied knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • 2 years' related experience, working with adult learners, inclusive of those who have English as an additional language, those with disabilities, and those with barriers to learning.
  • Informal/formal training related to equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenization, decolonization.
  • Confident computer/technology skills and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

SALARY: $32.21 - $41.83/hour reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience, plus 11.2% in lieu of vacation. This is a casual opportunity to June, 2024.
