Under the Department of Commerce, the mission of the Division of Employment Security is to administer the unemployment insurance system for the state of North Carolina by delivering efficient, effective, and quality service.
Description of Work:
The Benefits Integrity Section is responsible for the prevention, detection and recovery of overpayments created by individuals who were not entitled to receive unemployment insurance benefits. Additionally, the section is responsible for the timely management of collections to ensure United States Department of Labor (USDOL) core measurements are met. The section is responsible for proactively preventing overpayments through use of analytical tools. The section investigates a variety of claims including identity theft and wage and earning reporting. The section is responsible for administrating the collection and recovery of overpayments including managing garnishments and interception of state and federal tax refunds.
The Overpayment Specialist will effectively handle all repayments received to be posted to previously established overpayments. This position will ensure that all payments received are posted, secured, balanced, deposited and documented according to USDOL standards. This position will assist in disbursing mail to proper units. This position will handle all information as it pertains to the establishment and collection of IRORA overpayments. This position will research, analyze, and correct any issues with lost/destroyed/stolen benefit payments. This position will administratively support the unit which collects revenue for established overpayments. This position will also provide preliminary data to inquiries utilizing the system to ensure calls, mail, and paperwork are routed to the proper area. This position will be responsible for the conveyance of information to callers to the Benefits Integrity unit ensuring that such information is documented in agency records.
This position requires work in the office and is not remote.
