SERVICE TECHNICIAN

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt, H-34

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing service and advice in the metering and electrical wiring areas. This position also works with the installation and maintenance of load management devices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required : High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

Two years of experience working and / or specific training in areas concerning electrical wiring.

Preferred : Master or Journeyman Electrician

KNOWLEDGE

Understands and adheres to the safety rules stated in the Northeastern REMC Safety Manual and National Electric Safety Code.

Safety practices are followed on a daily basis.

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of Northeastern REMC operations, policies, products and services.
  • Familiar with the electric utility industry as well as overall workings of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.

Uses resources effectively and efficiently. Arranges information, files and work in an organized manner.

  • Effective communication skills that clearly and accurately provide information, resources, and services to the appropriate parties with patience and professionalism.
  • Network and personal computer software programs including Northeastern’s electronic mapping system.
  • Properly use small hand and powered tools, SCADA, recloser and meter test equipment and voltage recorders. Ability to continuously learn new equipment when necessary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES ( other reasonably related job duties may be assigned)

  • Work with metering, load management, and AMI to clean, inspect and test existing single and three phase meters to ensure accuracy before they are installed or reinstalled.
  • Installs and maintains automatic capacitor banks and substation equipment such as electronic breakers, regulators, and others.
  • Diagnoses stray voltage on customer services and finds remedies to reduce the effects of the stray voltage on customer equipment.
  • Advise supervisor of need for additional meters and related supplies to maintain proper inventory.
  • Test meters in the field to ensure equipment is working properly by accurately reflecting and receiving reads. Prepare and maintain appropriate meter test records.
  • Fulfill service orders by conducting meter reading activities at meter sites.
  • Setting and / or removing meters for beginning and ending of electrical services.
  • Install and maintain load management devices as needed.
  • Assists engineering and operations with the installation of control devices in the field .
  • Coordinate and oversee a yearly substation breaker battery inspection along with battery maintenance program for all field devices that require batteries.
  • Coordinate installation and commissioning of all CT’s, PT’s and all associated wiring for instrument transformer rated metering.
  • Assist with collection activities of delinquent member accounts as needed.
  • Provide technical support as needed in the resolution of metering related concerns.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position requires a medium amount of physical activity such as constant standing and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.

Visual acuity and precise overall motor skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Full-time employment that regularly works during business operating hours of 7 : 30 am -4 : 30 pm or Monday-Friday, however, can be subject to afterhours work designated by a rotating on-call list for system restoration responsibilities.

Primarily works outside and could be subject to atmospheric conditions and hazards such as extreme heat or cold, noise, vibrations, oils and low voltage.

Traveling outside could include driving and walking on uneven, slippery, and rough surfaces at job sites. Secondary works inside with the use of computers.
