Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

Overview
The School Psychology Program of Northern Illinois University (NIU) seeks applications to a one-year renewable full time visiting faculty position (non-tenure track) starting August 2024. The position requires a doctoral degree in psychology with a specialization in school or educational psychology, licensure (or licensure eligible) as a psychologist, a strong academic background, a record of scholarship, and experience as a school psychologist. The faculty member is expected to contribute to the NASP approved Specialist in School Psychology Program, and to the APA accredited PhD School Psychology Program and be prepared to teach graduate school psychology program courses, teach undergraduate courses in psychology, supervise students in beginning and/or advanced practica, and assist with administration and coordination of the school psychology program.

Position Summary
The faculty member is expected to contribute to the NASP approved Specialist in School Psychology Program, and to the APA accredited PhD School Psychology Program and be prepared to teach graduate school psychology program courses, teach undergraduate courses in psychology, supervise students in beginning and/or advanced practica, and assist with administration and coordination of the school psychology program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, in collaboration with program faculty:
  • Participate as a core faculty member in the school psychology program.
  • Teach 3 courses per semester each academic year. Courses might include but are not limited to School Psychology practicum, Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues in School Psychology, assessment and therapy courses, and undergraduate teaching of child development, lifespan development, or a developmental/school lab course.
  • Participate in research activities with faculty and co-supervising student research activities.
  • Coordinate with program faculty for program admission and participate in admission activities such as interviews, information sessions, etc.
  • Serve on program and departmental committees, as appropriate.
  • Assist program director for program activities related to APA and NASP accreditations.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • The position requires a doctoral degree in psychology with a specialization in school or educational psychology.
  • Candidate must hold licensure as a psychologist or be license-eligible.
  • A strong academic background and a record of scholarship or exhibit the potential for establishing such a record.
  • Candidate must have experience as a school psychologist.
