What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Librarian position at Northern Light?

Northern Light is looking for a talented person to join our editorial staff of research librarians in a position that promises to be quite exciting and multifaceted. The position of Research Librarian will conduct research on a topic/industry to identify key issues, trends, and information sources and create newsletters for our clients. These newsletters cater to clients in various industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and information technology. Additionally, you will design newsletter templates and train clients to use Northern Light's online newsletter tool. The goal is to produce high-quality content that effectively communicates with Northern Light's clients' audiences.


Essential functions:

  • Generates topic-specific newsletters for clients, distributed on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis as directed by the client.
  • Gathers business requirements from clients, sales and Customer Success Managers (CSMs) to create dashboards and newsletters.
  • Develops topic-specific dashboards for continuous customer demonstrations, collaborating with Sales on specific requirements.
  • Educates customers and potential customers on crafting searches using BOOLEAN operators, along with providing guidance on dashboard administration and best practices for creating newsletters.
  • Collaborates with CSMs on an as-needed basis to support customer requirements.
  • Participates in the weekly Editorial Team meeting.
  • Attends meetings with customers and potential customers as needed.

  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills: An elevated level of proficiency in written communication and the ability to proofread accurately are essential for producing engaging and error-free content.
  • Diligence with an eye for detail: The ability to identify errors and inconsistencies is crucial in maintaining the quality of content.
  • Strong communication and consensus-building: The ability to communicate effectively, actively listen, and achieve consensus is important for collaborating with team members, and the ability to handle stressful situations and deadline pressures well.
  • The ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Consultative and problem-solving skills.
  • A proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint. Strong computer skills, particularly in these software programs, will be valuable for designing and formatting content.

Candidates are encouraged to share a small portfolio or a writing sample. You should not create something new, just send us a piece you have already written.


What Sets You Apart:

In addition to having a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience, with a Master's in Library Science or equivalent preferred, the candidate will have proven work experience as a Content Editor, Web Editor, or a similar role. It is beneficial if you have experience with newsletter writing tools, such as Unlayer and experience with BOOLEAN search, text analytics, machine learning, software as a service, and online collaboration technologies. The candidate will possess excellent customer service skills.
