Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Professional Engineer/Senior Principal Professional Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.

.

We're seeking a motivated team player to implement and assist activities for our tooling assembly line. Typical candidate has a background/experience/education in manufacturing/mechanical engineering, design, graphics, writing/ illustration, views, and animation.

.

A successful Professional Engineer for the B21 Bomber Program shall be a licensed professional engineer in the state of California or very close to obtaining one. He/She shall be able to perform Static and dynamic analysis with respect to NGC requirements in support of Major/Minor, simple/complex Tooling fixtures and structures. Additionally, the candidate shall be able to design simple to complex tooling, Drill Jigs and Assembly Jigs, Dies, via NX to support production. This person shall be able to conceptualize these designs in 3D, detail the CAD model and detail the drawings for fabrication. These drawings shall be properly laid out using views and dimensions that are in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards. The TD, while being the principle contributor and/or leader, shall work with internal/external customers, and colleagues to ensure that the design meets the customer needs and see it through each phase of the engineering process (Design, Fabrication, and Implementation). In addition, it is essential that this person have the ability to mentor less experienced engineers, work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.

  • Performance of Static and dynamic analysis with respect to NGC requirements in support of Major/Minor and simple to complex Tooling fixtures and structures

  • Creation of Professional reports in support of completed analysis as well as review reports of others
  • .
  • Provide PE certification of analysis/work completed
  • .
  • Tool Design of simple to complex Tooling in support of Aircraft assembly and build
  • .
  • Creating Drawings via CAD in accordance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards
  • .
  • Performing tolerance analysis to ensure form/fit/function
  • .
  • Engage with other team members in meetings, 1:1's and others in order to provide the right solution to complex engineering problems

  • Professional Engineering with the ability to analyze simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEM, respectively.
  • .
  • Computer Aided Design Tools - Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

  • Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Basic level understanding of GD&T

Basic Qualifications for Principal Tool Engineer:

  • Bachelor's (STEM) Degree with 5 years of experience OR Master's (STEM) Degree with 3 years of experience OR Ph.D. (STEM) with 0 years of experience in medium to large scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations.
  • .
  • Professional Engineering License (preferably from California - consideration will be given if candidate is within 1 year of completing certification)
  • .
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access prior to starting
  • .
  • Ability to work any shift

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Tool Engineer:

  • Bachelor's (STEM) Degree with 9 years of experience OR Master's (STEM) Degree with 7 years of experience OR Ph.D. (STEM) with 4 years of experience in medium to large scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations.
  • .
  • Professional Engineering License (preferably from California - consideration will be given if candidate is within 1 year of completing certification)
  • .
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access prior to starting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Direct Aerospace Tooling experience
  • .
  • Direct Experience with Catia and or NX or some CAD
  • .
  • Direct experience with Tooling mechanics and analysis relative to stress
  • .
  • Ability to Read/understand blueprints/GD&T in accordance with ASME 14.5
  • .
  • 1 year of Experience working with SAP
  • .
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
  • .
  • Able to communicate with various levels of leadership, must be able to coordinate and resolve interpersonal and technical problems and must work well either in a team or independently with limited guidance

Salary Range: $92,200.00 - $138,400.00Salary Range 2: $114,300.00 - $171,500.00

.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
