Job Summary
The Skilled Feed Mill Operator (SFMO) is responsible for manufacturing feed in accordance with standard operating procedures set forth by Northside Elevator’s Safe Feed Safe Food Program. The SFMO will be responsible for operating the computer automation systems required to receive ingredients, grind grains, and mix and pellet bulk and bagged feed. This role will be to operate the processing equipment according to established standard operating procedures and current good manufacturing practices. There are three SFMOs on staff, each being responsible for a separate, individual shift. Each SFMO will oversee the mixing room, mix feed, oversee the flow of incoming orders, print off hand add sheets, dispatch bulk feed drivers and hopper bottom deliveries, make calf feed, and keep the mixing process running efficiently for their shift. In addition to feed manufacturing, the SFMO will perform housekeeping activities, inspection of incoming materials, sampling, and quality checks on feed and ingredients. The SFMO is responsible for compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
The schedule for this position would typically be Monday-Friday, 11 AM - 7PM. Weekend work as needed during busy season.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture feed in accordance with quality assurance policies, standard operating procedures, and current good manufacturing practices
- Use Repete software to receive and blend feed mixes and calf feed
- Use Agvantage software to communicate work orders to Repete software
- Communicate with mill managers frequently about day-to-day operations
- Keep notes with ideas, thoughts, and problems that occur to share with mangers
- Monitor quantity of materials needed for the mixes that need to be blended
- Communicate with Lead Feed Production about ingredient needs and flow of traffic at the mill
- Operate manufacturing equipment
- Operate automation system
- Verify correct product and quantity of hand adds before adding to the mixer
- Access medicated feed and accurately record inventories
- Unload incoming feed into the correct bins and in the correct sequence
- Schedule feed mill activities to include feed manufacturing and shipments
- Collect feed samples in accordance to feed sampling plan
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly
- Ensure racks, bins, and storage areas do not overflow
- Monitor, inspect, and record incoming loads and materials in accordance with receiving documents
Additional Duties
- Operate a forklift and pallet jack
- Detect potential electrical or mechanical problems
- Keep tools in proper working condition or report when tools need repair or replacement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent
- Possess proficient communication skills with high attention to detail
