POSITION SUMMARY: A sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to
provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing,
diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A sleep technologist can
score and generate physician interpretations. A sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology and is able to provide
oversight of other sleep center staff. Technicians and trainees work under the direct supervision of the credentialed sleep
technologist or the medical director. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service
Excellence Standards to all customer groups.
PROVISION OF SERVICES
Demonstrates the ability to develop and implement an age appropriate plan of care using assessment and
clinical skills, with the ability of evaluating the plan of care and making adjustments as the clinical setting
changes. Performs sleep disorder studies accurately and safely as ordered by physicians. Operates all
equipment utilized for sleep disorder diagnosis and treatment. May calibrate equipment required for testing
and make adjustments. Determines testing parameters and procedures with aid of a physician. Scores
sleep/wake stages. Completes and verifies records of all procedures performed. Oversees unusual and
difficult procedures. Complies with Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
standards. May provide oversight to the sleep lab technician.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of an accredited education program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis on
polysomnography, OR
Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration, associated with a state license
and/or must have at least 3 years’ experience as a Polysomnography Tech. -
Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic
Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent
