Summary & Qualifications:
Summary
The supplemental reference librarian provides reference and circulation services to library patrons. They interact with students to assist them with in-library and online resources to achieve their personal and academic goals. This librarian will assist in supervising student employees. Additionally, the librarian will participate in the design and execution of library programming and create physical displays and marketing materials to promote library collections and events.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience providing reference services in any library setting or personally receiving high-level reference services as a student
- Capacity to use and demonstrate online databases for research purposes, as well as to locate and evaluate online resources
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills, knowledge of the internet and cloud-based applications
- Experience with Canva, Adobe or other visual marketing tools
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science
- Experience providing reference consultations in an academic setting
- Library circulation or library page experience, including using interlibrary loan
- Experience teaching, tutoring, managing or training others
- Event management or marketing experience
Essential Responsibilities
Reference
- Interact with and assist patrons (students, faculty, staff, and community patrons) in identifying, locating, and accessing information on-campus and
- online information
- Hold reference consultations with students in person and via Zoom
- Circulate materials, maintain circulation records, facilitate interlibrary loan
- Assist in the supervision and training of students employed at the library
- Assist with weeding, selection, and maintaining the collection
- Assist with archival projects as needed
- Assist with maintenance of LibGuides
- Attend department meetings as needed
- Assist with the design and execution of special library programming
- Create displays for the library
- Provide marketing support for all library events, including writing press releases, creating posters and social media marketing, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
