The mid-shift hours will be 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The hourly rate will be $20.87 after the probationary period until 2:30pm when a .65 shift differential will be added.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or its equivalent
Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and necessary
Reports To: Facilities Supervisor and Building Administrator
General Description: To provide students, staff and visitors with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times
2. Shovels, plows and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
3. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building capacity
4. Flag raising and lowering
5. Cleans classrooms daily and dusts as needed
6. Cleans corridors daily and as needed throughout the day
7. Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilets and floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
8. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently as necessary
9. Perform yard keeping chores as necessary such as grass cutting, tree trimming to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition and keeps the grounds free from rubbish and weeds
10. Supervises night custodians and checks their work on a regular basis
11. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
12. Perform minor building repairs and reports major building repairs to the building administrator and facilities supervisor
13. Report immediately to the building administrator and facility supervisor when there is damage to any school property
14. Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the building administrator or facilities supervisor
15. Responsible for opening and/or closing the building each school day and determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, all lights (except those for safety reasons) are turned off and the alarm is turned on
16. Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions needed for replacements from the facilities supervisor far enough in advance so they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodial duties
17. Conducts and ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair
18. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the building administrator or facilities supervisor
19. Check roofs, roof drains and gutters at least once each month
20. Removes trash and garbage from the kitchen and cafeteria areas and thoroughly was the floors each day
21. Complies with all local, state and federal laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
22. Regulates Heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
23. Ability to respond quickly to alarms, evacuation of building, all clear for buildings
24. Must be able to unload trucks, move deliveries and distribute up to 100 pounds – distribute freight and school materials
25. Understand and implement safety procedures as required by the building administrator and facilities supervisor
26. Unclog and clean drains and grease traps as needed
27. Sweep, mop, strip, wax and seal floors
28. Must be able to climb a step stool or ladder
29. Does other related work as required by the Building administrator and Facilities Supervisor
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms above head and from the floor. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders and stepladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, salt, bulk furniture and unloading trucks. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year as determined by the union contract
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support service personnel
