As a Tower Technician II or Tower Technician III/Top Hand, your responsibilities may include:
- Climbing and working on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment; performs tower maintenance.
- The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Knowing the hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment.
- The ability to climb tall structures (300 feet or more) while wearing full safety equipment and carrying up to a 40 lb load.
- Analyzing situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action.
- Communicating orally, electronically and in writing.
- Following instructions accurately and complete assigned course of action.
- Recognizing safety hazards and performing duties in a safe manner.
- Act as a team lead and mentor to less experienced Tower Technicians.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Travel up to 100%
- Possession of a medical marijuana card disqualifies an individual from these positions due to the safety sensitive nature of the job, work at height, and DOT regulated driving requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Physical Requirements All Positions:
- Must meet certain weight requirements post-offer, pre-employment and during employment in order to comply with equipment manufacturers’ safety standards for working at heights; maximum weight to be qualified to climb upon hire is 250 pounds.
- Waist circumference must not exceed 60 inches measured at the navel as specified by the manufacturer of safety equipment.
- Ability to climb tall structures with a load of up to 40 pounds while working at heights of 300 feet.
- Ability to lift and carry materials that weigh up to 70 pounds for 6-8 hours per work day.
- Must be able to work at heights from an aerial work platform (AWP) such as man-lifts, boom trucks, cranes & other approved equipment.
- Ability to identify all colors associated with telecommunications cable and equipment indicator lights.
- Ability to connect and disconnect various sizes and types of electronic connectors
- Ability to push and pull materials and equipment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand, walk and climb for extended periods of time.
- Perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time.
- Ability to drive long distances on and off road.
- Ability to perform these duties in all weather conditions and climates including heat, cold, rain, etc.
- Ability to work in remote and challenging locations including, but not limited to: rooftops, confined spaces, and all types of geographic locations.
- Have the ability to complete the Novotech Construction Tower Technician Training Program
Top Hand/Tower Tech II - 1 more years experience
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess OSHA 10 for construction
- Possession of a valid driver license and be able to pass the Motor Vehicle Records check.
- Must possess a current DOT CMV Physical Card
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
- Recent Com Train or equivalent certification in Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification desired
- Experience with Fiber and Line Testing, general use of test equipment
- Experience in replacement and maintenance i.e. coax, jumpers, TMA's, connectors and weatherproofing
- Ability to work under a Foreman, managing work at the top of the tower independently per instructions provided by Foreman
- Ability to temporarily take over Foreman duties when Foreman is not on site
License/Certification:
- OSHA 10
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
- Tower Climbing and Rescue Certification (will be re-certified after hire)
- Rigging Certification (will be re-certified after hire)
- NWSA TT1 Required within 90 days of hire
- Valid Driver's License
- Must have the ability obtain and maintain all additional certifications and qualifications necessary for the position
Top Hand/Tower Tech III - 3 more years experience
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must possess OSHA 10 for construction, OSHA 30 for construction a plus
- Possession of a valid driver license and be able to pass the Motor Vehicle Records check.
- Must possess a current DOT CMV Physical Card
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Recent Com Train or equivalent certification in Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification

- Willingness to take hands on approach in leading their team through demonstration
- Experience in replacement and maintenance i.e. coax, jumpers, TMA's, connectors and weatherproofing
- Ability to work under a Foreman, managing work at the top of the tower independently per instructions provided by Foreman
- Ability to temporarily take over Foreman duties when Foreman is not on site
- Highly organized and be able to effectively report verbally, electronically and through written reports back to the Construction Manager.
