Job Description PURPOSE: This position is supporting the operations and development of the NREL Metrology Laboratory by providing routine maintenance and calibration of measurement and test equipment, in compliance with NREL’s Metrology Laboratory policies. DUTIES: Performs routine maintenance and calibration of test instruments under direct supervision of scientific and technical staff. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized operating environment in accordance with NREL’s safety policies and procedures. Assists senior technical staff with experimental set up, including soldering, cabling, and wiring data acquisition instruments. Contributes to the development and maintenance of the metrology operations database. Perform general metrology laboratory administration, including equipment purchases, calibration due notification, receive/accept incoming Measurement and Test Equipment (MTE), inspect incoming MTE, schedule MTE for calibration, update calibration database, file MTE calibration reports, and coordinate the return of MTE to owner. Work Schedule: Standard 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m with some flexibility, occasional weekend and holidays work is required. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree or accredited training in Metrology and five years experience in calibration of general-purpose test instruments, e.g. multifunction calibrators, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, and general-purpose test instruments. Familiar with ISO 17025 accreditation, measurement uncertainty analysis, and Fluke’s Met/TEAM and Met/CAL. . Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 8 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Extensive knowledge in specialized focused support functions. A comprehensive acquaintance with and understanding of both general and detailed aspects of technical support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported. Strong research techniques and practices. Strong communication, interpersonal, project management and customer relations skills. . Additional Required Qualifications Demonstrated technical knowledge of metrology practices and calibration procedure development. Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Effective computer skills for document generation, data analysis tools, programming, data acquisition systems, and ability to interpret and develop electronic circuits. Capable of routinely lifting 70 lbs. Exhibits attention to detail with high levels of innovation, initiative, and integrity. Must have (or be able to obtain) and maintain a valid driver’s license.
