A. FUNCTION
Nile Sisters Development Initiative (NSDI), a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is seeking a full-time Research and Development Specialist. Reporting to the Deputy Director, External Relations, the Research and Development Specialist will have the responsibility of grants management and donor development to build a gifts program for individual and foundation donors primarily for NSDI programs and vocational training school, as well other initiatives and fundraising programs as assigned. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for expanding NSDI electronic grants database and processes.
B. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (Below functions are not exhaustive and may be altered by Leadership to the extent it aligns with the position.) Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Adhere to and uphold the mission of NSDI.
- Identify funding opportunities and new program areas to match NSDI priorities through careful research and analysis.
- Research and document grant opportunities to determine eligibility and appropriateness in a well-organized database.
- Generate proposals and written documents in response to solicitations
- Create and maintain a database of statistics and demographic information for San Diego, Los Angeles, and Sacramento.
- Accurately create and maintain electronic files.
- Maintain a digital organization system in which NSDI Leadership and staff can access information with ease.
C. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES
- Bachelor’s degree, 2 years’ experience in development and fundraising in the nonprofit sector
- Knowledge of foundational research and experience in fundraising for nonprofit organizations
- Demonstrated expertise to utilize online databases and other software to create, retrieve, and compile up-to-the-minute documents and historical information for reports.
- Demonstrated success at raising major gifts by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation plans for gifts of $100,000 from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
- Proven record of writing proposals for significant projects, gifts (100,000 ) directed to individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Expert writing and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
- Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence with colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.
- Experience in developing budgets and using financial information for comprehensive budgetary reports. Experience projecting budgetary needs.
- Possess strong professional oral and written communication skills
- Possess advanced software skills (DonorPerfect, Asana, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Office, website software, new communications technologies, as well as a general understanding of database and reporting systems.)
- Well organized, dependable, flexible, and resourceful.
- Excellent organizational skills including monitoring of details.
- Adhere to confidentiality mandates and professional conduct.
D. WORKING CONDITIONS, JOB SETTING, and COMPENSATION
- Full-time – 40 hours/week.
- Flexible work environment, work will be performed in NSDI headquarters, in an office setting, and requires the use of electronic equipment including computer, telephone, etc.
- Flexibility in schedule, including scheduled weekends, when necessary.
- Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal and telephone communication. Ability to sit for long periods, standing, computer entry, walking, repeated bending, lifting, and carrying up to 20 lbs., reaching.
