Our company specializes in Property Maintenance and Management throughout the Northeast, We are looking for a Asphalt Crew Manager for our Asphalt Paving and Milling Division. New Haven, CT Location

The candidate will be required to supervise and lead crews and ensuring all materials and equipment are ready for each job assigned, ensuring projects are completed on time and to communicate verbally and in writing with the corporate team, and ensuring projects are run in a manner that ensures maximum efficiency within cost and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

· Responsible for directing the day to day activities for specific projects.

· Will provide management, analytical and administrative support.

· Manage subcontractors, and paving crews.

· Coordinate with general contractors, governmental agencies to provide timely completion of projects. Coordinate with appropriate Sales and Operations personnel to ensure timeliness of materials.

· Responsible for scheduling work and to complete projects on time, on budget and safely.

· Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety program, and encourage all employees, to adopt safety as a culture.

· Company procedures to deliver the Project in a safe manner whilst ensuring that Health, Safety and Welfare is a core Value of all staff

· Understanding of Specification and Contract requirements to ensure works executed to correct standards

· Be part of the process for making key decisions with the Project Manager and the Senior Management Team for the execution of the pavement works

· Inspect and ensure that pavement related equipment is operational and maintained correctly, reporting any defects to the Site Management / Equipment Manager immediately

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials, using trucks, rakes, or related equipment.

· Start machine, engage clutch, and push and move levers, switches, and pedals to guide machine along forms or guidelines and to control the operation of machine attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or swing booms.

· Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain and/or materials.

· Operate machines to spread, smooth, level, or steel-reinforce stone or asphalt on road beds

· Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials, according to grade specifications.

· Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow, and indicate low spots for workers to add material.

· Conduct documented pre-shift inspections of equipment for safety and mechanical defects.

· Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers.

· Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to and or audio signals from crew members.

· Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment, using mechanics' hand tools. Conduct pre-shift inspections and report any concerns or malfunctions to supervisors.

· Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.

· Perform necessary work while complying with all company policies and procedures.

· Perform additional duties as required or directed by their immediate supervisor or other manager.

· Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

· 5 years of experience with paving and/or asphalt

· 3 years of experience leading paving or asphalt construction crews

· People management experience, such as managing performance, development and disciplinary procedures

· Ability to work in a team environment contributing across a business unit or area

· Good management skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance

· Good operational planning and time management skills

· 5 years minimum paving experience, with 3 years of airfield related pavement construction and/or rehabilitation

· Ability to ensure Company and Contract standards and specifications are met

· Ability to work with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance

· Be a proactive problem solver; team player with a positive, forward-thinking attitude.

· Ensures and documents daily proper housekeeping as well as guaranteeing safety and health project plans are put into practice and maintained throughout the project

HEAVY PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Heavy physical effort required including pulling and lifting or moving heavy weight material with frequent lifting or moving materials or equipment (over 80 pounds). If a position specific Physical Demands sheet is attached, it will describe in more detail the physical demands that are required.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
Position requires the ability to continuously work around any or all of the following: noise, dust, heat, cold, oil and heavy equipment. Personal protective equipment is normally required of the position. Position requires ability to exchange ideas quickly and clearly and the ability to receive and evaluate detailed information and instructions.

Compensation: The rate for this position will vary and will be commensurate with experience
