O’Melveny is actively recruiting for a Benefits ad Leave Specialist to support our Firmwide Human Resources department. This position will be based in our Los Angeles Office.

The salary range in California for this role is $95k-$110k and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administration/Leaves/Project Management:

  • Supports the Benefits and Wellbeing Manager in various plan renewals and communication efforts.
  • Manages all non-attorney staff Leave of Absence and accommodation requests. Backup support for the Benefits & Wellbeing Specialist for attorney leaves and Workers Compensation claims.
  • Functions as a liaison between leave of absence administration vendors, payroll, staff management and other applicable departments during leave process.
  • Advises managers and employees on the leave administration process, leave laws with paid time off, and both short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with legal requirements and documentation of best practices, and provides relevant custom reports to senior management.
  • Provides project management with the firm’s annual Benefits and Wellbeing Fair and Flu Clinic

Benefits Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of multiple health and welfare benefits (i.e. medical, dental, disability, voluntary benefits, concierge services, etc.), including process, across several health and welfare lines of coverage (i.e. medical, dental, disability, voluntary benefits, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of health and welfare plans financials/underwriting including how self-insured plans work.
  • Knowledge of absence management including leave of absence policies and process.
  • Effectively responds to benefits inquiries from employees regarding plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general information.

Communications:

  • Provides monthly benefits/wellbeing updates to HR Manages a high volume “O’Melveny Benefits Team” and “Leave of Absence” shared e-mail inboxes by providing partners and employees prompt responses to their inquiries about the firm’s health and welfare benefits including leaves and accommodations.
  • Participates/assists with the firm’s annual open enrollment process; including preparation of written plan material and open enrollment communications, as well as oral presentations.
  • Directly contributes to the creation and delivery of monthly written communications and quarterly benefit-related presentations.


Vendor Management:

  • Manages multiple vendor relationships to ensure optimal performance with a focus on partner/employee satisfaction.
  • Ability to work within a vendor partner’s internal infrastructure to escalate unresolved issues that occur at their local team level.

Compliance:

  • Monitors and manages our internal compliance calendar related to applicable federal, state, and local statutes/laws.
  • Manages the information and data collection needed to ensure compliance with all applicable state leave laws.
  • Develop a clear comprehension on applicable state leave laws in relation to internal leave of absence policies.

Well-Being:

  • Integral part of the O’Melveny Well-Being Team contributing on both a strategic and administrative level.
  • Provide project management support in the planning and executing of on-site events tied to our wellness initiatives.
