Job Summary:
The Health Information Management Specialist makes a professional and courteous lasting impression on patients and families that interact with OakLeaf Surgical Hospital. They are responsible for electronically organizing and maintaining data for collection, storage, analysis, retrieval and reporting while coordinating the flow and exchange of information related to patient accounts and medical records.
Hours:
- 35 Hours Per Week
- Monday through Friday - 6AM - 1:30PM
Essential Job Functions:
- Process all Release of Information requests per State, Federal and HIPAA regulations in a timely and efficient manner.
- Coordinate and maintain Master Patient Index and Closed chart reports. Research duplicate accounts and take appropriate action to reconcile errors and affected systems
- Manage all aspects of The Patient Portal: Enrollment, resetting passwords, responding to email and phone requests/questions by troubleshooting enrollment issues
- Assign electronic documentation tasks to physicians (sign, time, date or missing documentation). Follow up with physicians to ensure timeliness
- Complete miscellaneous audits timely and accurately to meet both department and hospital performance improvement goals including auditing medical records after forms transferred to permanent storage to ensure quality, complete, accurate and legible records
- Registration and Pre-registration functions to ensure that all information entered into the admitting/registration system is accurate and complete by obtaining copies of appropriate documentation to facilitate the billing and collections process
- Regular and prompt work-site attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
- Medical background working in a healthcare environment required
- Preferred Registered Health Information Technician or 5 years medical records experience
- Detail oriented, accurate, and capable of working in a fast paced environment
- Is aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with them
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Ability to relate and work effectively with others
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
