Job Description:
The DC Safety Coordinator role at OSJL ensures a safe and compliant work environment by training, certifying, and evaluating Powered Industrial Truck (“PIT”) operators in the Distribution Center. This role encompasses developing and delivering training programs, conducting inspections, and supporting accident investigations. The role also maintains training records in accordance with OSHA requirements and enforces safety policies, fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Train and Develop Operators:
- Deliver comprehensive truck-specific training (PITs) encompassing operation of pallet jacks, vehicle inspection, safe driving, load handling, charging procedures, and safety protocols.
- Utilize a blended learning approach with video instruction, written assessments, and hands-on practice.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations and provide re-certifications, including, but not limited to, annual refresher training.
- Maintain Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure safe equipment operation by identifying and addressing unsafe practices, recommending corrective actions, and retraining as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections and observe equipment use to verify proper use and adherence to safety procedures established by company policies, best practices, and OSHA standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant compliance standards.
- Document safety incidents and accidents.
- Manage Asset Protection and Security:
- Serve as a central point of contact for all asset protection, safety, and security concerns.
- Ensure adherence to all Company standard operating procedures and policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment (first aid kits, AEDs, eyewash stations) to verify functionality and maintain compliance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- 1 or more years of experience in a related setting (asset protection, warehouse or distribution center security, or retail experience) is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, clean driving record and auto insurance.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge and experience with the safe operation of all types of powered industrial trucks is required.
- Ability to complete all position-specific training as well as pass all licensing requirements.
- Excellent safety record is required.
- Proficient in Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).
Work Environment:
- Works primarily in a warehouse environment, characterized by temperature extremes, noise, movement of conveyors and equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center. This position requires extended periods of moving, remaining stationary, ascending, descending, and positioning oneself to complete various tasks throughout the shift.
- This role must be able to perform assigned tasks at various locations, including, but not limited to, truck lot, mobile response, central station, and associate entrances.
- Responsible for physical activities including using powered industrial equipment; ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely as well as without limitations, moving, reaching, and lifting on a frequent basis. Should be able to lift and move 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Portions of time will be sedentary, with near vision use for reading and computer use.
