GENERAL SUMMARY: The primary function and responsibility of this position is to provide mental health counseling to OSUIT students. Interacts professionally and effectively with the campus community to facilitate referrals and maintain positive public relations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide student-centered and culturally informed short-term counseling.
- Provide students with a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental space to voice concerns and help them work through problems that may affect their academic progress.
- Participate as a member of the Emergency Management Team, the Nonacademic Admissions Committee (NAC), and the Behavioral Consultation Team (BCT).
- Provide professional development, support, and information for employees to assist in recognizing and dealing with students who have mental health issues.
- Publicize the availability of counseling resources and counseling services through print and the web.
- Research, evaluate & maintain online resources for a variety of mental health and career issues.
- Actively participate in the maintenance of the Counseling Services webpage.
- Support faculty as needed with college Cornerstone and Capstone classes.
- Develop and deliver workshops on mental health issues.
- Maintain ongoing professional development via involvement with relevant professional associations and continuing education resources.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in counseling or mental health related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
- Three years of relevant experience is required, preferably in higher education, clinical setting, and/or industrial psychology environment.
- Preference will be given to those individuals who are a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and/or a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact comfortably and effectively with students and employees.
- Ability to maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality.
- Must possess excellent listening skills.
- Must be able to interact effectively with members of student support units and contribute in a dynamic team environment that adheres to process-oriented, results driven strategies.
- Must model a positive attitude along with a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated.
- Must have a willingness to continually self-initiate learning to maintain and enhance proficiency.
- Proficiency in information technology mediums to include work processing, spreadsheets, and multi-media. Should be able to quickly grasp and apply new skills and methods.
- Must possess strong verbal skills and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and in group presentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with respect, sensitivity, and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of college students.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Travel may be required.
