What are the responsibilities and job description for the PAINTER I-IV position at Oklahoma State University?
Paints interior offices, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and furnishings which includes preparing (scrape, sand, prep) the area/surfaces to be painted, spreading drop cloths, etc
Hangs sheetrock; tapes, prepares patch, and textures drywall with taping mud, plaster, or spackle
Applies various types of materials such as alkyds, acrylics, urethane, epoxies, lacquer, vinyls, and stains with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to walls, ceilings, floors, window sash, doors, and other furnishings.
Mixes /color matches paints, stains, varnishes, and/or enamels to produce desired color.
Nearly all paints and thinners are rated hazardous. Work area may contain fumes and dust. Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, or high-lift equipment.
Regularly stands, lifts, bends, stoops, lifts above shoulders and carries 50 lbs or more.
Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes, odors and loud noises.
Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed).
Job requirements include occasional use of respiratory equipment; therefore, an individual must be able to pass a medical exam to assure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.
Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can't be accomplished during regular hours and when the Management staff deems necessary.
Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed)
Appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), gloves, safety glasses, etc. are provided for use in the workplace.

Two to ten years of work experience related to the job duties as outlined in the job description, preference given to those with experience in the painting trade.
Painter II – IV positions require previous experience in the painting trades.
Candidate position placement is dependent upon years of experience and availability.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Job requirements include occasional use of respiratory equipment; therefore, an individual must be able to pass a medical exam to assure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.
Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding or high-lift equipment.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to follow instructions precisely and completely, have good communication skills, ability to work with very little supervision
