Job Summary:
We welcome you to join the Patient Financial Services team as a Patient Financial Counselor. In this role, you will provide customer service by handling all patient phone calls. Assists patients with payment plans, explains payment options for extended payment arrangements with our outside vendor. Responsible for encounters returned from the outside vendor. Assists patients in their effort to seek financial assistance from Olathe Medical Center as needed. Submits and follows up on charity applications. Refers encounters to an outside collection agency when appropriate. Responsible for collection agency returns. Responsible for reviewing bankruptcy notices and taking appropriate action. Handles incoming and outgoing calls and correspondence from physician offices, attorneys, etc. Responsible for resolution of accounts receivable within all Federal, State, and Local regulations. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School or GED Minimum
- Previous Healthcare Experience Minimum
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews encounters before recommending adjustments, refunds, bad debt/collections, or financial assistance. Follows up with Insurance Financial Counselors when needed to resolve the encounter. Follows departmental procedures and guidelines to ensure the prompt and accurate resolution for accounts in keeping with our commitment to Compliance.
- Demonstrates proficiency with office equipment, computer programs, and web sites necessary to perform duties (e.g. Cerner, Siemens MS4, Outlook, Medicare, Medicaid, Word, Excel, ACT's, Vanguard, other insurance and work related web sites).
- Reviews Bankruptcy notices as they come in to ensure the patient is not being billed for encounters that fall prior to the bankruptcy file date. Adjust or transfer to ARSI as appropriate.
- Uses effective communication and reasoning, seeking advice when necessary, to provide customer service while seeking to secure proper reimbursement for services provided by the Medical Center, within boundaries permitted by Federal and State laws and organizational policies and procedures.
