Job Description
The Healthy Living Specialist will be responsible for implementing and growing
Evidence Based Health Interventions for chronic disease prevention and
management (Healthy Living Programs) at identified branch within the Old Colony
YMCA Association. They will focus on direct member engagement specifically as it
relates to Healthy Living initiatives and connecting eligible members to appropriate
programs. Responsibilities include marketing and promoting the programming,
enrolling participants to meet participation goals, and leading / facilitating the
programs and ensuring all program requirements and standards are adhered to.
They will represent OCY in a positive, professional manner, resulting in friendly,
convenient and courteous service and will display and encourage the character
traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job
duties.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
Hold one national certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, advanced
YMCA certification), and 6 months previous practical / relevant experience in
- the field;
- Current CPR / AED and First Aid certifications;
- Obtain additional required YMCA certifications / other certifications as needed;
o YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach
o LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Instructor
o Enhance Fitness Instructor
o Healthy Heart Ambassador
o Other based on available program
- Wear appropriate staff attire;
- Ability to bend, kneel, move, or stand for extended periods of time;
Ability to lift, move, and carry 45 lbs.; and ability to occasionally lift, move,
- carry weights in excess of 45lbs;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent Listen First and group facilitation skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel and Power Point;
- Grant writing and fiscal management skills a plus;
Experience in data collection.
