What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freight Handler position at Olympia Chimney Supply?

2 Weeks PTO, 8 Holiday's and 3 Personal days after 90 Days

The ground-ship/freight packer will safely pack goods in shipping containers, develop mailing labels and shipping documents and ensure that all orders have been filled correctly .

Essential Functions

· Packs, examines and routes outgoing shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.

· Enter data about package and/or set up new customers in shipping system.

· Supports the shipment of goods produced to be used in, or to aid in the production/storage of, goods destined for sale to our customer base.

· Responsible for arranging for pick up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order, which is conveyed to the shipping clerk by final inspection via the shipping instructions.

· Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.

· Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.

· Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Temperature is varied to the temperature outside due to open doors and garages.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position during the first shift of the workday, normally Monday-Friday 10:00a – 6:30p.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position

Required Education and Experience

· Minimum of a high school education or GED equivalent

· Prior freight packing/shipping experience

· Familiarity with entering information into shipping systems, e.g., FedEx or UPS.

· Ability to read and write English

· Experience taking accurate measurements
