POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant General Foreman assists the General Foreman in directing, administering and overseeing all the activities of the Mechanical Department on a local level including locomotive and freight car. Oversees the support of policies, goals and objectives established by the PNR General Manager and Regional Mechanical Leaders by performing duties personally or through subordinates.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation and the Federal Railroad Association (FRA)
- Direct the preparation of short-term and long-range shop and/or location utilization to achieve area goals set forth by the General Manager and Regional CMO and General Foreman
- Oversee area budget conformance and expense regulation insuring maximum cost effectiveness while continually improving fleet reliability
- Develop performance goals and baseline performance measurements in areas of interest to achieve or exceed quality standards set both on the Corporate and Regional levels
- Work cooperatively to ensure daily power requirements are met: anticipates operational needs for changing line traffic, schedules and environmental landscapes
- Initiate improvement of operations insuring long-term reliability through personal and report monitoring
- Create the atmosphere and processes necessary to manage organization's current activities and projected growth
- Evaluate results of local operations regularly and systematically; accountable for awareness of all issues and matters pertaining to local performance and fleet reliability
- Familiar with and adhere to authorized procedures to promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization; remain current with the latest OEM recommendations and communicate data to subordinates as required for efficient repairs
- Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, province, and federal regulations and laws governing their operation. This includes, but not limited to all areas which could negatively impact OmniTRAX, Inc. by name or reputation, adhering to Federal and Province labor and environmental issues.
OTHER DUTIES
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
- Wear required protective equipment such as: hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots or safety glasses
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Non-Exempt level associates
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training processes for new employees
- Ensure responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all subordinates are defined, understood and followed with focus of safe operations of facility
- Accountable for establishing policies to ensure all subordinates develop to enhance field of operations, and the Company for continued growth based on succession
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- High School Diploma/GED
- 4 years’ job Railroad Management experience, or combination of education and experience
- Experience working with employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement
- Working knowledge of FRA, AAR, OSHA and EPA Rules and Regulations relating to freight cars
- Thorough knowledge of all freight car mechanical systems, including air equipment
- Direct and perform hands-on repair to freight cars
- Strong leadership skills
- Work independently with limited supervision
- Strong organization and prioritization skills with high attention to detail
- Working knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 234 and 236
- Read, analyze, interpret and comply with published rules, procedure and manuals, inspections checklists, government regulation, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
- Write legibly
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrate mathematical concepts for cost analysis and fundamental business practices applicable to local cost effectiveness and ROI; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Excellent oral and written communications skills; effectively communicate with all level of employees and business associates in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills resulting in effective resolution

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Valid State Driver’s License CDL
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil & Gas industries
