What are the responsibilities and job description for the Expert Safety Specialist - Vegetation Management position at OMS Group?

OMS Field Services is looking for an Expert Safety Specialist to work in our clients Vegetation Management program. Specialist will administer Vegetation Management field/yard assessments. Field/yard assessments will focus on a specific area of skill/knowledge including, but not limited to any task(s) performed within vegetation management. May involve working in extreme weather, day or night conditions, and hiking to observe chainsaw use, tree felling, climbing, & cutting aloft, limbing & bucking, and use of aerial lift, etc. Business conduct must occur in accordance with OMS policies and procedures and be aligned with the goals of OMS.

Essential Functions:
  • Trains other VM Safety Specialists and provides expertise during the performance and administration of initial and subsequent observations, written or computer-based documentation of field observations and knowledge and skills including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, working independently.
  • Trains and provides expertise to other VM Safety Specialists for the preparation of employees for the entire field assessment process, written and/or computer testing and field observation, through effective communication and tail boarding. Ensures employees understand the purpose and process.
  • Trains in the sharing of outcomes, observations, trends, gaps and issues with direct supervisor, the employee's supervisor and/or manager that contribute to the development and implementation of mitigating strategies as needed.
  • Trains in the addressing of gaps and issues identified to improve observations, coaching tools, process, and/or materials.
  • Trains and provides expertise regarding the observation processes are followed and records are maintained in compliance with VM program requirements.
  • Provides expertise for the enhancement of new standards/processes.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process/asset recommendations are being implemented and maintained.

  • Contributes to the training of new safety specialists (company and/or contractor).
  • Other duties as assigned by OMS or the client.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Any technical or continued education in related field. (Forestry, Utility Vegetation Management and/or Logging)
  • CPR/First Aid
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) or Consulting Utility Forester Safety Professional (CUFSP).
  • Certified Arborist or other International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credential.
  • Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)
  • Five (5) years of experience in the arboriculture industry or military experience and (4) year in the arboriculture industry
  • Training experience within the arboriculture/utility line clearance industry.
  • Thorough understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback.
  • Leadership and collaboration skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Logging Regulations, ANSI Z133 Standards and PG&E Safe Work Practices
  • Required to maintain a Class C driver’s license, including participating in Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN), with DMV.
  • Conduct a background check, drug screening, and physical exam.
  • Approval by Client Representative
Preferred:
  • OSHA 30 (with focus in Elec Power)
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credentials
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Commercial Driver’s License
Working Conditions: 
Environmental Factors:  Indoor and outdoor conditions; exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on/walk on slippery or uneven and potentially mountainous terrain.  Noise level is usually moderate. Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to perform tasks during a typical 8 hour workday
