Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt, Regular, “At Will” Work Status

Reports To: A/R Team Lead, Business CTL and/or Practice Doctor as assigned

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

· Sitting 80%

· Standing/walking 20%

· Moderate noise levels from Medical and Surgical equipment

· Dental, Medical, office, and lab setting

· Exceptional hand dexterity and typing skills to work with standard software programs provided.

· Good Mathematical aptitude in order to prepare and interpret financial reports, collect and track payments and account balances, and maintain financial integrity for the practice.

· Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for computer data entry and the preparation of treatment plans.

Vision/Ideal Outcome

The A/R Specialist fulfills a unique and vital role in the OMS of Utah practice. It is your responsibility to assist patients and the A/R department with dental billing issues. You have a great opportunity to research and implement more efficient billing practices. You are often the last contact with our patients and leave the last impression they may have of our office. As such, it is your responsibility to help patients have a pleasant financial experience. Often you are working independently but understand that you are part of a larger team that must function together to succeed.

Position Summary

The A/R Specialist is responsible for insurance verifications, the processing of dental insurance claims, and management of relationships with insurance carriers. Contacts insurance companies and patients regarding coverage determinations and outstanding balances. Researches and resolves insurance billing issues.

Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of dental billing and insurance.

· Familiarity with ADA codes

· Creative problem solving skills

· Negotiation skills

· Experienced in oral and written communication.

· Understanding of basic computer functions including practice management software

· Skilled in managing incoming phone calls and making outbound phone calls.

· Capable of working alone without constant supervision

· Overall comprehension of office mission, vision and systems

· Superb verbal skills with patients, insurance companies, third party companies and team

· Strong mathematical capabilities

· The ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time

· Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude.

· Must be detail oriented in order to maintain good financial practices, account balances, and financial reporting.

· You must be flexible and understand that your job duties may change from time to time and that you may be asked to “help out” in other areas of the office.

· Must demonstrate active listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

· Must demonstrate good reading comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

· Must demonstrate excellent communication skills - Talking to others to convey information effectively.

· Information Ordering - The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

Experience and Education:

· Associates degree in Accounting or Business or comparable experience may be considered to substitute for all or part of the required education at management’s sole discretion.

· Accounting experience in the medical field preferred.
