Job Summary:
The RN Surgical Coordinator - Orthopedics at Oneida Health is responsible for coordinating patient care and providing nursing services in the orthopedics practice. This role involves managing surgical schedules, answering patient inquiries, scheduling appointments and surgeries, providing pre and post-operative instructions, and ensuring accurate documentation. The coordinator works closely with the surgical services team to ensure seamless patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer telephones and emails, providing information about surgical times, appointments, and instructions.
- Schedule patients' appointments and surgeries, send reminders, and schedule emergency and add-on surgeries.
- Understand surgical procedures and requirements to maintain a surgical schedule effectively.
- Provide patients with pre and post-operative instructions.
- Manage surgical documents, input patients' information, and update post-surgery data in records.
- Ensure all surgical cases are scheduled promptly following physician or surgeon's directions.
Education:
- Associate of Nursing (Required)
- Bachelor’s of Nursing (Preferred)
License and Certifications:
- New York RN (Required)
- BLS (Preferred)
Experience:
- Nursing: 2 years (Required)
- Medical office environment: 1 year (Preferred)
- Surgery experience (Preferred).
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and medical staff.
- Strong organizational skills to manage surgical schedules effectively.
- Proficiency in medical record documentation and data entry.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced medical office environment.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, pre and post-operative care instructions, and medical terminology.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently.
- Occasionally lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, and reach.
