Open Gates Group is an entrepreneurial family of companies located near Kalona, Iowa that support the growth of local, organic dairy products. We care about our employees and take pride in our community. To help our community's farmers, we built a creamery and then 10 other food industry-related businesses. Today, we help source, produce, sell & transport Midwestern products to 3,500 stores nationwide. Our dairy products are minimally processed and come straight from Midwest family farms surrounding our creameries. We are looking for a corporate Staff Accountant to join our team!
Summary:
The Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.
What you will do:
- Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, balance sheets, and profit and loss statements.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Assist with financial audits and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate the accumulation of financial information for financial audits and maintain a system of controls over the distribution, retention and retrieval of financial reports.
- Prepares and consolidates financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial documents.
- Utilize accounting software, such as QuickBooks, to record transactions.
- Maintain the general ledger and a system of controls that ensures all related reports are produced timely, accurately and in accordance with corporate policies and management directives.
What you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or other applicable field.
- 1-3 years of corporate accounting experience preferred; preferably in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Demonstrated financial reporting expertise.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Team-oriented with a sense of urgency and focus working in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated communication skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, and Google Docs.
