What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Legal Navigator position at Openwork, LLC?
Openwork is currently assisting the Houston Alumni Youth Foundation in their search for a Legal Navigator. This is a part-time (12 hours a week) position with the focus of assisting youth, formerly in foster care, with resolving outstanding legal issues. The Legal Navigator will work within the HAY Center wraparound services model to support the youth in reaching their education, employment and housing goals by addressing any legal issues that might create a barrier.

Additional functions of this job are to:
- Assist youth and young adults (YYA) formerly in foster care in connecting and communicating with those assigned (attorneys, probation officers and others) to represent or monitor the YYA who is involved with the legal process
- Provide navigation services designed to assist YYA in resolving legal issues including meeting with legal representatives, attending court hearings, provide recommendations to the YYA on how to advocate for themselves and connect the youth with any services that may be available to assist with the YYA’s specific needs
- Develop a best practices service delivery process in working with YYA with legal issues which will be incorporated into the HAY Center wraparound model.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation in the data tracking system as well as generate YYA data for quarterly reporting.
- Be available for meetings, staffings, and events as needed. Some Saturday hours anticipated.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work or related field
- Experience with legal systems
- Reliable transportation
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Experience using Microsoft Office
- Some experience working with youth and young adults who aged out of foster care
- Experience with court appointed attorneys, public defenders, court records, and probation compliance.
- Part-Time work helping the youth
- Pay Rate: $35.00 hr.
