Job Details:
The Broadband Technician I (BBT I) employee is an entry level position responsible for the basic
customer premise and drop installation within a cable television system. This employee is responsible
for connecting the customer to the company’s broadband service by installing and troubleshooting all
customer premise equipment (CPE). This employee is also responsible for educating the customers on
the functions and features of their newly installed company equipment. This employee maintains an
up to date knowledge base of all services and products provided by the company to assist customers in
making the proper decision for video and data services.
The Broadband Technician I is the first level of service technicians within the company, and career
advancement is dependent upon completion of proper certifications within the company and/or a
thorough display of competence within all tasks associated with BBT I.
Specific Job Duties:
Perform reconnects, disconnects, change of service requests and pre-wires or post-wires single
dwelling units and multiple dwelling units (MDUs) in order to provide service to all rooms within
the customer’s home.
Installs customer premise equipment (CPE) including Dish Network based set top boxes (STB),
IPTV STBs, DOCSIS modems and other various CPE within the home.
Installs Dish Network based satellite L-Band systems as needed including mounting and
alignment of the antenna, wiring the home/location properly and install all necessary CPE.
Installs phone service by punching down service at the main demarcation point at the home or
through the use of a multimedia terminal adapter (MTA).
Use industry standard tools to install connectors, fasteners, and various hardware to
accomplish the installation. Use various signal level meters to verify quality of service (QoS)
parameters.
Perform basic service troubleshooting within the home back to the main demarcation point
within the premise.
Provides the customer with materials regarding channel lineup, use of STBs, use of broadband
services, and company policies as they relate to the customer as well as demonstrates these
skills to educate the customer on the use of the equipment and company guidelines.
Communicates with customers in a clear and straight forward manner. Proven ability to work
independently and to prioritize and organize effectively.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and operate at heights up to 40 feet using extension ladders
and/or bucket truck. Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time.
Work in all weather conditions and in various spaces such as attics and crawl spaces. Must be
able to perform the tasks assigned in these areas that may be poorly ventilated and where
there may be dirt, dust, noise, insects, rodents, pets, and cleaning supplies.
Work in areas near power lines and active electrical services.
Familiarity with computer operating systems and a variety of customer devices including
smartphones, computers, routers, modems, set top boxes and wireless devices.
Ability to and willingness to learn to use various handheld devices including signal level meters,
spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters as well as computer provided laptop and various
software.
A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that fall within company requirements.
Must be able to travel to and from assigned territories and company facilities, including during
inclement weather.

Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends,
variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Able to work a rotating on call schedule.
