What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Design Engineer position at Optimas Solutions?
Essential functions:
Performs advanced, complex design of tools for cold heading and rolling machines and related functions to support manufacture of new products and improve manufacturing processes for existing products.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Design tools for cold heading and rolling operations and related functions which ensure that products manufactured meet all specifications while maximizing life of tooling.
* Design tools for new products and changes for improvement of existing tool drawings.
* Make machine part drawings and tool drawings from broken parts. Consult with Production Technicians and Manufacturing Supervisors to determine best design concepts, processes and methods.
* Interface with Production Technicians to participate in trouble shooting of manufacturing problems.
* Evaluate tool designs and set-ups for proper functioning and cost effectiveness.
* Check drawings of others for errors and makes corrections as necessary.
*Quotes new parts as assigned. (When needed)
* Communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
* Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
* Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Optimas Business Conduct.
* Demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to Optimas Business Systems manufacturing principles and techniques.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications: Five to eight years of experience performing cold forming tool design activities.
Skills:
Ability to work with almost total independence. An in-depth technical knowledge of cold metal forming processes and tool design is required.
Preferred Qualifications Strong in header tool design - Header Knowledge - Ability to work closely with shop floor personnel - knowledge of transfer headers – Proficient at -AutoCad – version 2018 (CAD software) preferred – DEFORM,NAGSIM,SIMUFACT (software that enables designers to analyze metal forming)
Experience such as National (Formax), Jern-Yao, and BoltMaker Multi-station Headers. Spanish bi-lingual a plus.
