Job Title
CoF Mentored Employment Program (Student Technical Assistant 2023-24)
This recruitment will be used to fill future part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms, up to 40 hours per week during term breaks) Student Technical Assistant positions as needed with the Mentored Employment Program and the SUGAR program in the College of Forestry (CoF) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Mentored Employment Program hires students to work with CoF Faculty Mentors on a variety of research, project and field work.
The SUGAR Program hires students during summer term to work with current CoF graduate Students and CoF Faculty.
Work may vary depending on the type of project (please review project details). The approximate hours worked per week may also vary depending on the needs of the project but will not exceed 20 hours per week during the academic terms.
Position Duties
100% Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Lab work (prepare samples, testing, evaluate, report results)
Analyze data
Write reports
Data entry
Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss work progress and results
Collect (process) field data
Collect (process) samples
Clean and perform maintenance of research equipment
Utilize equipment specific to the research being done for the job
Drive OSU Motor Pool, personal, and/or University or college owned vehicles as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and well-developed interpersonal skills
Basic understanding of Excel and Word-processing software
Ability to work with supervisor and co-workers respectfully and punctually
Ability to work without supervision, independently and/or in a group
Ability to focus on the same task for periods of up to two hours without major distraction
Ability to learn new software or equipment needed to perform work
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
Currently enrolled College of Forestry Undergraduate students in good academic standing.
