Orion Academy is seeking an enthusiastic part time physics teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
We are looking for a unique teacher who can teach our academically bright students a challenging and engaging physics curriculum through structured, well-organized lessons.
Applicants for this position should have a good understanding of the 9th-12th grade NGSS. Most curriculum for this position will be provided, and what is not provided will be created with the support of an Orion Academy administrator and/or veteran teacher.
About Our School:
Orion Academy is a small private high school that specializes in students with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, and other similar neurocognitive disorders that affect organization, long-term planning, and social skills. A familiarity with ASD and NLD is helpful but not necessary. We provide training in the fundamentals of teaching students with NLD or ASD - best teaching practices are really the foundation of a successful Orion teacher.
Due to the nature of our students, we offer small class sizes (6-10 students), computers for all students, predictable class structure, and a quiet, safe place for learning. This, in addition to the highly collaborative nature of our staff, makes a great environment for teaching. Applicants who are experienced in educational technology are preferred - our school is Google-heavy, with all classes utilizing Google Classroom.
Teachers who are a good fit for Orion are enthusiastic about their subject, highly structured and organized in the classroom, and open to taking on different responsibilities at the school. As a small school, all the teachers take part heavily in not just managing their own classrooms, but also aid in planning and running our regular events, clubs, trips, and more. We are a very tight-knit community, and are looking for applicants that are strong team players. The right applicant for this position is a team player who is truly passionate about teaching high school and who believes in our mission and vision.
A valid California teaching credential in physical science is preferred, but we are looking for the right person for our program above all else. If you are not credentialed but are the right fit, we are open to hiring you conditionally while you enroll in a credential program. We are also open to retired teachers.
