What are the responsibilities and job description for the WIC Qualified Nutritionist position at Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.?
WIC (Women, Infants & Children) is a supplemental food and nutrition education program for women, infants, and children. This position determines nutrition risk eligibility, prescribes and tailors food packages for consumers and provides nutrition education for consumers of the program.
DUTIES:
- Conduct complete nutrition assessment, determine program eligibility
- Complete participant enrollment process
- Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue and re-issue food packages
- Review and approve requests requiring medical documentation

Implement individual care plans and track participant progress
Provide guidance in nutrition assessment and counseling to participants
- Promote breastfeeding by providing information, encouragement, and technical support to prenatal and postpartum clients
REQUIREMENTS:
- Familiarity with nutrition education and health resources as they relate to special populations
- Ability to assess consumer’s nutritional needs and risks
- Skilled in participant-centered nutrition counseling to produce behavioral change
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition; Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutrition (RDN)
- Valid NYS Driver's License with good driving record
- One year experience in program management is preferred
Schedule: Follow clinic schedule with rotating Saturdays
Location: Based out of Oswego with county-wide travel
