General Functions:

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Education Program Director is responsible for overseeing the development, organization, and implementation of high-quality YMCA Educational Programs. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

∙ Create and maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for all.

∙ Supervision of staff including enforcement of professional behavior and appearance.

∙ Supervision of all program participants and acting as a steward of the YMCA’s mission,

culture and as a professional role model at all times.

∙ Ability to plan, organize and implement age/developmentally appropriate curriculum, schedules, and program activities.

∙ Maintain Exceptional Communication, Leadership, Empathy, Organizational, and Conflict Resolution Skills with staff, parents, and students at all times.

∙ Attend organizational staff meetings and coordinate regular Education Department staff meetings.

∙ Cultivate qualified staff, interns, and volunteers.

∙ Market and promote programing creating brand compliant flyers, brochures, and social media and advertisements for community engagement to increase visibility and participation in program.

∙ Substitute or assist with class as needed.

∙ Purchase supplies for implementation of program activities.

∙ Maintaining attendance sign in and sign out sheets to maintain accurate program participation numbers.

∙ Maintain orderly classroom and behaviors.

∙ Make sure all areas are organized and cleaned daily.

∙ Responsible to maintain minimum participation requirements to run program.

Summer Education Programing

∙ Plan and implement summer education camps including theme, staffing, day/time, reserving space, pricing, advertising, and all responsibilities as stated above.

∙ Responsible to maintain minimum participation requirements to run program.

Other

∙ Annual Budget planning, implementation and maintaining.

∙ Classroom Fundraising for supplies, scholarships, or field trips.

∙ Administration of onboarding, professional development, scheduling, payroll, disciplinary actions and terminations of staff.

∙ Provide outstanding customer service by addressing concerns and consistently following up.

∙ Stay up to date with other programs at the Y including special events to encourage participation.

∙ Actively support and participate in YMCA functions.

∙ Substitute for your staff as needed.

∙ Actively pursue training and learning opportunities and certifications/trainings related to the position; maintain certifications required by the position.

∙ Provide surveys after programing for feedback to assist with program improvements.

∙ Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Experience and Education:

∙ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, or the Human Services field.

∙ Administrative experience including supervision and financial management.

∙ Minimum 2-years’ experience in childcare, teaching, or other related fields.

Qualifications:

∙ Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.

∙ Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously with minimal direction.

∙ Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team oriented, creative thinking, positive conflict resolution and leadership skills.

∙ Ability to read, interpret and effectively communicate, document information and instructions to staff students and parent’s the safety rules, classroom procedures, YMCA program promotions, and YMCA policies and procedures etc.,

∙ A firm understanding of the leadership role handling a variety of situations, problems, issues and/or complaints with a positive conflict resolution ability.

∙ Possess knowledge of age-appropriate activities, developmental milestones, and expectations of children in particular educational program

∙ Able to work a flexible work schedule which may include evenings and weekends based on needs of the program and events.

∙ Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.

Trainings & Certifications:

∙ Must complete the required on-line training within the suggested timeframe.

∙ CPR/First Aid Certification.

∙ Must attend and complete YMCA Child Abuse Prevention within the first 90-days of employment.

∙ Must complete and/or attend any other training required by the Y and/or Executive Director.

∙ Teaching Certification Required or process of obtaining.

4. : Demonstrates responsible actions; consistently performs duties in a safe and conscientious manner within the agreed upon timeframe; follows standards, policies and procedures; is reliable and consistently punctual; actively participates in staff meetings, required trainings, and other work-related activities; uses good judgment; uses YMCA resources appropriately and efficiently.

5. : Treats everyone with courtesy, respect, and consideration; displays integrity; communicates in a clear and pleasant manner; demonstrates an active willingness to learn and grow; accepts constructive criticism; works cooperatively as a team member.

Physical Demands:

Ability to frequently sit, use his/her hands and fingers, stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, and climb. Ability to lift and/or carry and move up to 35 pounds (occasionally this could be more). Specific vision abilities required: close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
