What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranger position at Oswit Land trust?
Goals of Position:
- Assures the protection of resident wildlife and native plants within Prescott Preserve
- Patrols and interacts with the general public daily to assure safe and appropriate use
by visitors
- Interact, supervise, and assist volunteers with land maintenance projects
- Establishing/maintaining signage and fencing
- Maintenance and development of approved trails which may include pruning trees,
bush, blowing debris, spreading mulch, moving rocks, etc.
- Mitigating human impacts (off-trail walking, trash, homeless encampments, off-road
vehicles etc.)
- Meetings and record keeping
- Assist with events at the preserve and other locations
Required Experience/Skills:
- Preferred educational or work experience in biology, ecology, earth science or other
applicable environmental field - but open to the right person with fierce interest in
the protection of nature and wildlife
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willing to work many hours per week outside in the desert environment
- Comfortable working alone while patrolling preserve
- Willing to supervise/maintain OLT properties and trails
- Use of landscape and trail building tools, powered tools, and some lifting required
- Willing to work as scheduled which includes mornings (starting at 6am in summer),
some afternoons and weekends with a flexible schedule
- Willing to patrol properties and interact with the general public, which often includes
correcting human behavior that negatively impacts the preserve
- Willing to protect resident wildlife from potential dangers
- Must be able to juggle several projects and work without constant supervision
- Spanish and English are a plus
- Capable of driving an electric cart
