We are looking for a Certified Pedorthist (C.Ped). at the Medical University of South Carolina, Orthotic & Prosthetic Services. In this position, the candidate will perform independent pedorthic care within the scope of practice, as well as assisting Prosthetists/ Orthotists as needed. The clinic is located within the MUSC hospital and you will have the opportunity to work along with a host of other healthcare providers to grow your expertise.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment to gather data relative to the patient's individual needs within your ABC or BOC Scope of Practice.
- Identify the patient's needs and be able to formulate the most optimal orthotic solution and comprehensive plan of care.
- Ability to provide orthotic education and instruction for the patient and their family.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of: Anatomical landmarks; basic musculoskeletal anatomy; planes of motion; basic medical terminology; policies and procedures regarding privileged information and HIPAA regulations; material and tool/equipment safety procedures and standards; universal precautions regarding infection control; impression-making techniques, materials, devices and equipment; measurement tools and techniques; orthotic assessment, orthometry, measurement, evaluation and outcomes forms; materials science; componentry; hand and power tools; item warranty and warranty limitations.
- Implement patient management plan for diabetic footwear and foot orthotics appointments (evaluation, fitting, delivery, and modification appointments).
- Work independently, as appropriate, to treat patients in coordination with the MUSC Wound Care Center.
- Maintain professional communication with the patient, family, and members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to document all patient interactions while establishing medical need and justification for services provided.
- Promote a positive work environment through compliance with customer relation policies and standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient related information (HIPAA Compliance).
- Utilize appropriate safety and infection control practices.
- Utilize tools and equipment safely and appropriately.
- Comply with all federal, state, and company regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
- Potential to cross train as an Orthotic fitter.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Prefer current certification as a Certified Pedorthist.
- Prefer 3 years previous experience as a Certified Pedorthist, but consideration will be given to all candidates
