Conveyor Person
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
- Responsible for operating, inspecting, and everyday maintenance of material conveyor system. Performs various manual labor tasks such as shoveling, Maintains proper lubrication to all gearboxes, speed reducers and bearings, and other parts of fixed equipment to keep the equipment working properly.Performs other tasks as directed.
JOB DUTIES
OPERATE, INSPECT, AND MAINTAIN CONVEYOR SYSTEM:
Checks fluid levels and condition of conveyor motors at beginning of the shift.
- Inspects and reports on the condition of the conveyor system, including belts, pulleys, and rollers at the beginning and throughout the shift.
- Starts-up conveyor system and shuts-down system if a problem occurs. Cleans and lubricates conveyor system throughout shift to prevent breakdowns.
- Performs minor repairs such as replacing defective rollers.
· Services the conveyor belts, rollers, return rollers, gearboxes by greasing, checking fluid levels, fueling the equipment, and replacing needed fluids.
- Inspects, adjusts, and identifies mechanical issues with the assigned conveyor belt system and assigned machines.
· Cleans and replaces filters and other parts as necessary.
- Ensures proper tracking of all conveyor belts, elevators, and other transfer points.
- Maintains proper tension and replacement of wipers on conveyors.
- Ensures that skirting material is appropriately adjusted to prevent spills and leaks.
- Uses proper lubricants as designated for each piece of equipment and in accordance with a pre-determined schedule or upon special request.
QUALITY CONTROL AND OTHER: Controls the quality of the product by visually inspecting material being conveyed, ensuring that it is free of oversized and foreign material such as large rocks, wood, broken asphalt, concrete, and steel, which materials may also cause damage to the processing plant.
- Shovels, sweeps, hoses spilled material from an area of the conveyor system and other areas of the yard.
- May take product samples in sample bags and/or perform sieve analysis tests. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor
- Other:
- Assists supervisors and co-workers with a variety of oiling and related tasks as necessary.
- Responsible for keeping inventory of fuel, oil, grease, and filters.
- Maintains accurate records of inspections, measurements, maintenance activities on all equipment serviced.
- Keeps plant management informed on inventory levels of lubricants and oils.
Maintains knowledge of environmental and safety regulations with regard to handling and disposal of fuel/oil as well as mechanical equipment.
- Works with maintenance department assisting both on everyday duties and special projects.
- Participates in a training program as directed to learn and perform the skills of a maintenance mechanic.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in operation of conveyor systems or processing plant preferred.
· The ability to use hand tools to replace parts and perform minor repairs.
- Must have demonstrated aptitude for mechanic work and basic mechanical skills.
- Must be able to complete inspection forms and status reports in English and understand verbal instructions provided in English.
- Must have basic math skills.
- The ability to operate any production equipment is preferred and may be required.
- Ability to perform manual labor in connection with the production operation, including the use of shovel, high-pressure water hose, jackhammer.
- Ability to communicate effectively with respect to job assignments, job procedures, applicable safety standards, and communication with other employees.
WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, as needed, including a hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, dust mask respirator, protective clothing, gloves, and other personal protective equipment.
- Employee may occasionally be required to work in environments that include exposure to extreme temperatures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms and must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
- The employee must follow LOTO/block-out procedures when working on any powered equipment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
