JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated RN to join an established team of Hematology/Oncology Nurses.
The role will require that the successful candidate floats between the infusion area, laboratory and triage depending on the daily staffing needs. Orientation to all areas will be provided.
Under the direction of the Clinical Manager and/or Charge RN responsibilities will include; intravenous administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy medications, insertion of peripheral IV’s, management of central access devices, patient assessment, symptom management, patient and caregiver education, processing lab samples and providing telephone triage. The RN will be a patient advocate and will serve as a liaison between patients, staff, and MD/NP providers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduate of Accredited Nursing Program, BSN preferred.
· Current California RN license
· Current certification in BLS and/or ALS required
· ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card preferred (required within 1 year of employment)
· OCN preferred
· Infusion Experience required (1 Yrs)
· Previous Oncology Nursing experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
· Knowledge of chemotherapeutic/biologic agents.
· Assessment skills with a strong understanding of common side effects and supportive care measures.
· IV insertion skills and experience with management/troubleshooting a variety of central access devices.
· Time management and critical thinking skills
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Basic computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records.
· Excellent communication skills
PHYSICAL FACTORS/REQUIREMENTS:
The physical abilities required of this position may include but are not limited to the following:
· Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shift
· Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person
· Motor skills sufficient to handle, use or operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, telephone, needles, IV,
· Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of hand held tools and to manipulate single sheets of paper and/or file materials
· Physical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materials
· Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time
· Physical ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.
· Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between patient
This position will require the RN to cross train in the telephone triage department as well as the laboratory to provide coverage as required.
